Scoring

Point Systems

These systems are used to calculate the Net Run Rate, decide in cases of Ties and for preventing those above from being implemented.

Universal Method of Scoring.

The Batting Section of the Scoring Record

  • You should have received a team list, (this list should be available at all times while scoring) hopefully with the batting order identified.

Record the name of the batsman in pencil or as the innings progresses - captains often change the batting order!

  • Indicate the captain with an asterisk (?) and the wicket-keeper with a dagger symbol ( † )
  • Record the time the batsmen start (and end) their innings
  • Record all balls received by the batsman in the scoring record
Remember to record the delivery from which the batsman was out if applicable
  • Wide balls are not balls received by the batsman
  • When a batsman is out, draw diagonal lines ( // ) in the ‘Runs Scored’ section after all entries for that batsman to show that the innings is completed
  • Record the method of dismissal in the "how out" column
  • Write the bowler's name in the "bowler" column only if the bowler gets credit for the dismissal
  • Record a caught by a substitute fielder as "caught sub" - the name of the sub may be recorded in brackets if required
  • If the batsman retires complete the entries in pencil as he may resume his innings later
  • When a batsman’s innings is completed record his total score, the number deliveries received, the time (in minutes) of his innings and make a note of the number of fours and sixes scored
  • At the end of the innings ensure that the names of any batsmen who did not bat are recorded

Cumulative Score

  • Use one stroke to cross off each incident of runs scored
  • When more than one run is scored and the total is taken onto the next row of the cumulator this should be indicated

Fall of the Wickets

  • Record the time the wicket fell and the time the incoming batsman commences his innings – this is the time the batsman steps on to the field of play
  • Record the score and the number of the "out" batsman
  • Complete the total balls received for the "out" batsman
  • If a batsman retires record the score and batsman's number by dividing the "fall of wicket" box in half vertically with a dotted line.
Enter the score and batsman retiring in the first half so that the second half of the box can be used to record the actual fall of the wicket
  • You may wish to additionally record the last wicket partnership
